Discover the Grace of Solidus

Experience the unique charm of Vidiano, a dry white wine with tropical notes of unripe pineapple, citrus fruits, and a touch of minerality

The Essence of Solidus

The dry white wine Solidus from the Cretan variety Vidiano offers us us complex aromas of ripe peach, apricot, bergamot, citrus blossoms and a mild sense of minerality, i.e. a slightly salty sensation with hints of astringency.

Vidiano, which until a few years ago was nearing extinction, is now considered one of the signature varieties of the Cretan vineyard.

Discovering the grape variety

A Cretan grape variety rediscovered in the 1980s, Vidiano has only recently begun to showcase its true potential. Currently covering a modest 150-200 hectares of Crete’s vineyard area, it is steadily expanding. While primarily cultivated in the Heraklion, Rethymno, and Chania prefectures, it has also spread to regions like Kavala (Pangeo) and Pieria in Northern Greece. Vidiano is gaining recognition for its unique combination of fruity, textural, and mineral qualities. Depending on the altitude and vine age, its wines range from fresh and aromatic to complex, mineral, and refined. Signature aromas include peach, apricot, bergamot, and herbs, complemented by a mineral undertone. Whether aged in oak or not, Vidiano consistently boasts vibrant acidity and character.

The Legacy of Solidus

The name Solidus comes from the gold coin established by the early Byzantine emperors and was a constant reference point for its great and lasting value; Solidus wine represents for us this constant value.

Our Vineyard named Kikinia

The Heart of Solidus

Our Solidus vineyard named ‘Kikinia’ is located at an altitude of 360m in the renowned wine region of Pezá. It provides the perfect environment for Vidiano grapes to develop a distinct character. The Vidiano grapes flourish in this region’s cool mountain breezes and nutrient-rich soil.
